After three months closure, on October 27, 2019, Linate airport in Milan is being re-opened after important refurbishment works that involved the runway, the services to passengers and the baggage handling system. The terminal has also gone through significant enhancements to allow its expansion and provision of further services to the city of Milan.

During the closure time, all flights have been diverted to the other airports close to Milan (Malpensa and Orio al Serio). It is now time to go back to their original destination, Linate. Thanks to the recent improvements, this important city airport will increase its traffic capacity and coordination with other airports and ENAV ACCs. And here is where SITTI has been giving its important contribution.

Upon reopening, the Linate airport will be using SITTI MULTIFONO M800IP® main Voice Communication System (VCS), equipped with analogue and digital radio and telephone channels, plus a number of standard ED-137 VoIP connections. To ensure connectivity to ENET (the legacy voice and data network utilized by ENAV to interconnect their ACCs and airports), appropriate QSIG interfaces are envisaged. All these different kinds of interfaces are natively supported by the M800IP® system, thus providing the customer with all the interface points he may need, by taking full advantage of the ED 137 standard recommendations and practices. Digital recorders are used for legal recording.

Besides the VCS system, SITTI is also supplying ENAV with 6 brand new controller working position consoles, capable of being assigned any operative role through simple configuration patterns. This guarantees maximum flexibility and interoperability in case of operational rearrangement and/or maintenance of other positions. The new consoles have been designed, on innovative requirements issued by ENAV, and manufactured by SITTI with special attention to ergonomy and integration of different data and service sources, in the frame of the “NexTower” project by ENAV, aiming at the technological modernization of all air traffic control rooms and airport towers.

The successful completion of the works in Linate is a major step for the improvement of air traffic to and from the economical capital of Italy, and SITTI is proud to have given its contribution to this success.

Jomo Keniatta (Nairobi) and Moi International (Mombasa) Airports in Kenya will be soon equipped by SITTI ultimate Voice Communication Systems (VCS). SITTI has in fact been awarded the supply of two MULTIFONO® M800IP® VCS systems for the modernization of the air traffic control infrastructure in this African country.

More precisely, one M800IP® system will be used in Nairobi NBO airport for the local tower, approach and area control center, while the other one in the Mombasa MBA airport tower and approach center. The new MULTIFONO® M800IP® Voice Communication System will be installed in the second half of 2019, to become operative in early 2020. Among the many demanding features required by the customer, the following ones are worth being mentioned:
