Field deployable VCSs are used by military forces when they have to operate in potentially hostile areas in order to keep the airspace under control; they are also used as contingency towers when other air services are unavailable for any reason. SITTI has got a large experience in the development of such systems, thus allowing military air forces to very quickly reach the combat-ready status.
The Italian Air Force is already using field deployable VCS systems belonging to SITTI MULTIFONO® M800IP® family, which include advanced features of this top edge communication infrastructure, natively capable of interfacing a very large number of different kinds of communication links, from analogue to digital to VoIP.
The current Deployable ARS (DARS) needs to be expanded to give the possibility of interfacing a larger number of local and remote radios, telephone links. The modules that are going to be delivered to the Italian air force for this enlargement and enhancement project include
- 13 radio interface boards, each of which capable of interfacing up to 2 analogue radios or 4 IP/VoIP radios
- 2 radio gateway for proper connection to 4 remote VoIP radio stations each
- 19 telephone boards for the management of 24 analogue telephone lines
- 11 digital E1 boards
Thanks to the new modules, the communication capabilities of DARS will increase significantly, thus allowing it to give operators access to a larger amount of connection links that will allow a better surveillance of the airspace. Analogue, digital, VoIP connections coexist in an extremely flexible system of unparalleled reliability (99.9999%). Modules are interchangeable modules and can be used in different modes, only provided the proper configuration is downloaded by means of the supervision system that is also part of the supply.
