<p class="wp-block-paragraph">La Défense is the ministry coordinating the Belgian Armed Forces. In order to make the military communication service more efficient and upgrade it to the most recent technological achievements available on the market, La Défense ordered SITTI a Voice Communication System (VCS) to be used to manage maritime communications in replacement of their older Galatea system.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The system being supplied is quite complex. It constitutes of one MULTIFONO® M800IP® VCS, equipped with radios, controller working positions and intercom facilities, which are connected to a VRS800S Digital Multi-Track Recorder/Replay System. All this is complemented by a DEC10 time reference system that provides precise time synchronisation, even in the absence of connection to GPS satellites.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A long and comprehensive set of tests have been performed to ensure that all components comply with the strict specifications defined by the customer and with the requirements defined by the EUROCAE ED137 standard. As a result of all these tests, the system passed SAT (Site Acceptance Test) and can now be delivered to its final destination.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The VCS is equipped with fixed controller working positions (CWP) using 24-inch desktop screens, plus mobile ones that can be safely transported and tactically deployed according to operational needs. These latter CWPs consist of a shockproof briefcase containing all what is needed to remotely connect to the VCS via a 15-inch touchscreen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">SITTI systems once more demonstrated their intrinsic flexibility, being capable of validly respond to both civil and military needs, wherever secure, safe and reliable communication is needed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Pantelleria</strong> is a small, yet strategic island in the Mediterranean Sea. It belongs to Italy, although is twice closer to Africa than to Sicily. Because of its enviable geographic position, the island has ever since hosted a military airport that is today also used by civil national and international flights operating on two runways.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Aeronautica Militare</strong> (the Italian Air Force) awarded SITTI and LEONARDO a contract for the upgrade the local infrastructure, encompassing both G/G (ground/ground) and A/G (air/ground) communications. SITTI will contribute by providing its state-of-the-art products, that will permit local ATCOs to rely on enhanced and secure communications to other controllers, aircraft pilots and other ground air traffic management services.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As part of the supply by SITTI, a new server-based VCS (<em>Voice Communication System</em>) will be deployed at Pantelleria. The new VCS system belongs to the <strong>SYNCRONIS® MULTIFONO® M800IP®</strong> family that has already been successfully installed at many other civil and military airports and ACCs (Area Control Centres) in Italy and abroad.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The VCS will be complemented by VoIP (<em>Voice over IP</em>) <strong>RIU-GVS gateways</strong>, capable of converting existing links to equipment using digital and/or analogue communication technologies to/from standard IP, according to the world-famous ED-137 standard. Both VHF and UHF radios with ECCM facilities are being connected to the VCS through Radio Interface Units (RIU).</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to that, multifunctional <strong>MTF800 terminals</strong> will also be installed, allowing ATCOs to increase their situational awareness thanks to the concentration of different information sources on a limited number of display devices in a smooth and integrated way. Data and audio are recorded by means of a <strong>VRS800S</strong> standard and legal recorder, where information is time-stamped and stored for later playback via the replay system, also provided by SITTI.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">SITTI is a primary VCS manufacturer and supplier worldwide, capable of giving prompt and top edge solution answers to Customer needs, both in the civil and military fields. The leading edge, redundant, non-blocking architecture of the <strong>SYNCRONIS® MULTIFONO® M800IP®</strong> provides flexibility and modularity for easy expansion and addition of further functionalities.</p>
