ROBERTO WEGER APPOINTED AT ICAO CP-WG-I

SITTI is proud to announce that its Innovation Manager, Eng. Roberto Weger, has been appointed at ICAO Communication Panel Working Group I (CP-WG-I) as Italian expert. In his role, he will act as advisor to Eng. Davide Corinaldesi, the Italian Member of the ICAO CP.

Leveraging on the large expertise achieved working for SITTI, a primary VCS (Voice Communications Systems) manufacturer and supplier worldwide for both Civil and Military markets, Mr. Weger will put at disposal of ICAO CP-WG-I his extensive experience in software development and network management, gained in managing complex projects over the past years.

In his current role, Mr. Weger is responsible for overseeing the participation of SITTI in several EUROCAE working groups, including WG67 (VoIP in ATM) acting as Secretary and technical coordinator for the completion of Part 5 (Network Supervision) of the ED-137 standard on Voice over IP in aeronautical communications, WG100 (Remote Towers), WG122 (Virtual Centers) and WG130 (Standards for EASA Certification). He is also chairing WG126 (ATM-VCS Integration). In addition, he represents SITTI in the EUROCONTROL VOTE Group, being also a member of its Security Subgroup.

His appointment to the highest world organization body for civil aviation represents a further step in the recognition of SITTI as a global, worldwide player in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) field and its capability of positively contributing to the analysis of the needs and the provision of possible solutions to the continuously evolving technological challenges in Air Traffic Management (ATM).

SITTI SUPPORT TO IGA TRIPLE RUNWAY OPERATIONS

On 17 April 2025, the IGA Istanbul Airport became the first European international airport to launch simultaneous operations on three independent runways. The inauguration of the new operations procedures was kicked off by the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, who gave clearance to three pilots that took off simultaneously from the runways.

SITTI is pleased to have contributed significantly to this milestone by enhancing and reconfiguring its M800IP® Voice Communication Systems (VCS) at IGA ATC tower and approach facilities. The enhancement included the deployment of controller working positions, remotely connected to the core VCS system, ensuring operational flexibility and reliability. Noteworthy is the frequency override function that permits a monitoring supervising controller to intervene in case of congestion or potential safety hazards, thereby strengthening safety and operational efficiency.

This important step is the result of a long process, coordinated by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), that required in-depth safety analysis and an appropriate redesign of the airspace, before starting true implementation through gradual adaptation of procedures and dedicated training sessions to all air traffic controllers.

SITTI congratulates all stakeholders involved and is honored to have contributed to this significant advancement in European aviation.
